Astavakrasana or Eight Angle Pose is an advanced arm balancing posture, which takes its name from an ancient Indian sage. It is considered a good posture to work up to and helps the practitioner learn about overcoming obstacles and being more playful in his/her approach to yoga. In this way, one develops both physical and mental balance. Astavakrasana can be a good reminder that the real work of the posture is internal and not about achieving an aesthetically perfect asana. It is said that the full expression of this posture should engage the soul and not the ego. |
